The upcoming “Justified” revival titled “City Primeval” is set to debut on FX in July with the first teaser trailer released on Monday…
Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens is back in business.
“Justified: City Primeval” — the limited series follow up to the Emmy winning show “Justified” — will officially debut on FX with a two-episode premiere on Tuesday, July 18.
The series will see Timothy Olyphant return to the role he played for six seasons, which earned him nominations at both the Emmy Awards and the Critics Choice Television Awards. The new installment will actually take Raylan out of Kentucky and drop him into Detroit where he begins pursuing a sociopathic killer.
Here’s the full synopsis for “Justified: City Primeval” via FX
“Having left the hollers of Kentucky 15 years ago, Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) now lives in Miami, a walking anachronism balancing his life as a U.S. Marshal and part-time father of a 15-year-old girl. His hair is grayer, his hat is dirtier, and the road in front of him is suddenly a lot shorter than the road behind.
“A chance encounter on a desolate Florida highway sends him to Detroit. There he crosses paths with Clement Mansell (Boyd Holbrook), aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent, sociopathic desperado who’s already slipped through the fingers of Detroit’s finest once and aims to do so again. Mansell’s lawyer, formidable Motor City native Carolyn Wilder (Aunjanue Ellis), has every intention of representing her client, even as she finds herself caught in between cop and criminal, with her own game afoot as well. These three characters set out on a collision course in classic Elmore Leonard fashion, to see who makes it out of the City Primeval alive.”
The upcoming limited event series is based on Elmore Leonard’s book also titled “City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit,” which continued the story that served as the basis for the entire “Justified” series.
As it stands, Olyphant is the only cast member scheduled to return for the upcoming revival, although it seems likely that at least a familiar face or two will return during the series. Walton Goggins famously portrayed Raylan Givens’ friend and enemy Boyd Crowder through all six seasons of the original series, but again there’s no word if he might make a cameo appearance in the new show.
