It appears that Jon Snow will have to carry on knowing nothing because plans for a “Game of Thrones” spinoff focused on that character will no longer happen…
A rumored “Game of Thrones” sequel spinoff focusing on Jon Snow is no longer in development at HBO.
That’s according to Kit Harington, who portrayed the character for eight seasons before he became involved in the early stages of bringing Jon Snow back to live with a spinoff series set after the events of the original show. “Game of Thrones” creator George R.R. Martin even acknowledged that talks had started to develop a Jon Snow spinoff but it appears those plans are no longer in the works.
“I hadn’t really ever spoken about it, because it was in development,” Harington told ScreenRant. “I didn’t want it leaked out that it was being developed. I didn’t want the thing to happen where people kind of start theorizing, getting either excited about it or hating the idea of it, when it may never happen. Because in development, you look at every angle, and you see whether it’s worth it.
“And currently, it’s not. Currently, it’s off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.”
That will be sad news for “Game of Thrones” fans hoping to revive at least one character from the original series, which earned a ton of Emmy awards and critical praise over eight seasons on HBO. The much maligned final season ended with Jon Snow abandoning his birthright to lead the Seven Kingdoms and instead traveling back beyond The Wall to live with the Wildlings.
While a Jon Snow series is no longer happening, HBO is staying plenty busy in the “Game of Thrones” business.
“House of the Dragon” season 2 is set to debut in June and a new series called “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” just cast the two lead roles in that show, which is expected to go into production later this year after receiving a series order from HBO.
