‘Sons of Anarchy’ creator Kurt Sutter discusses the possibility of that show crossing over into the new world of ‘Mayans MC’…
When ‘Mayans MC’ debuts on September 4 on FX, the series will be touted as a spinoff from ‘Sons of Anarchy’ but in reality the two shows are still very separate.
While the Mayans Motorcycle Club did first appear on ‘Sons of Anarchy’, the mythology of that show largely ended when the series came to a close back in 2014.
That being said, ‘Mayans MC’ will include some references to ‘Sons of Anarchy’ as the show takes place approximately three years after the death of Jax Teller and characters like Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera) will play a major part in the new series.
At San Diego Comic Con, creator Kurt Sutter addressed the possibility of seeing characters from ‘Sons of Anarchy’ crossover into ‘Mayans MC’ and how much he would rely on that as the series moved forward.
In a separate interview, Sutter did confirm that his wife Katey Sagal would be reprising her role as Gemma Teller for a flashback during the early part of the first season of ‘Mayans MC’ when she apparently encounters the lead character EZ Reyes while he was doing time in Stockton Prison.
“It’s a flashback to eight years ago and a way of letting us know that he’s in Stockton where the two worlds will collide, at least in memory,” Sutter said recently
On ‘Sons of Anarchy, several members from the mother charter spent months in jail between seasons 3 and 4, which would correlate with the timeline for ‘Mayans MC’.
