Lady Gaga has now confirmed that she’ll star alongside Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix in the upcoming “Joker” sequel set for release in 2024…
Lady Gaga is officially ready to get a little bit crazy.
The Grammy and Oscar award winning singer confirmed on social media that she’s set to star alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the upcoming “Joker” sequel that’s set for release on October 4, 2024.
Gaga had previously been rumored to play Harley Quinn in the sequel titled “Joker: Folie à Deux” that will continue the story started by Phoenix in the 2019 film that earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor.
While the singer and actress didn’t confirm her part, Gaga is almost certainly playing the hugely popular character who first originated in “Batman: The Animated Series” in the 1990s before eventually appearing in comic books as well as live action form, most recently played by Margot Robbie in several films including James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad.”
Harley Quinn’s origin story centered around her being a psychiatrist named Harleen Quinzel, who treated the Joker during his stay at Arkham Asylum before she eventually fell in love with him. After transforming into Harley Quinn, she ends up as Joker’s accomplice but she’s also often depicted as a victim of his abuse and violence as well.
There’s no telling what story will be told in the “Joker” sequel, although the film is expected to be a musical set primarily in Arkham Asylum, which is where Phoenix’s character Arthur Fleck was sent after he went on a murderous rampage in Gotham City.
Based on that information, “Joker: Folie à Deux” seems like the perfect setting to tell the origin story for Harley Quinn and the Joker as played by Gaga and Phoenix but only time will tell how that will come together.
For now, Gaga has officially confirmed her role in what will undoubtedly become one of the most highly anticipated sequels of the next couple of years, especially after “Joker” was nominated for a number of Academy Awards.
