Sadly, “Lovecraft Country” has come to an end after one season on HBO with the network opting not to renew the series for season 2…
“Lovecraft Country” will not return for season 2.
The critically acclaimed series based on the book by Matt Ruff that was adapted for the screen with Misha Green as the creator and showrunner has officially come to an end after HBO opted not to renew the series behind the first season.
The first season of “Lovecraft Country” largely exhausted the source material in the original book so as a limited series, the show had already technically reached its end point with the final episode. That said, HBO has faced similar situations in the past like with the show “Big Little Lies,” that exhausted the source material but still came back for a second season.
Unfortunately that wasn’t the case for “Lovecraft Country” as HBO pulled the plug on the series this week.
“We will not be moving forward with a second season of Lovecraft Country,” HBO said in a statement released on Friday. “We are grateful for the dedication and artistry of the gifted cast and crew, and to Misha Green, who crafted this groundbreaking series. And to the fans, thank you for joining us on this journey.”
“Lovecraft Country” followed a young Black man named Atticus Freeman, who was returning home to the segregated south after he fought in the Korean War. Atticus eventually joins up with his friend Letitia and his uncle George to travel through Jim Crow America in search of his missing father while discovering all sorts of secrets about his family’s heritage.
The series starred Jonathan Majors, Jurnee Smollett, Aunjanue Ellis, Wunmi Mosaku and Michael K. Williams.
While “Lovecraft Country” won’t return for season 2, Green revealed a little tease about the plan she had been working on for the show if they were picked up for another run on HBO.

According to reports, Green had already put together around a 75-page “bible” of sorts mapping out plans for a potential second season, although no scripts had been written for the show just yet.
Now it appears “Lovecraft Country” has come to an end after the first season on HBO.
