A third season of ‘True Detective’ isn’t a sure thing yet but an Oscar winner signing on to star might be what seals the deal…
‘True Detective’ hasn’t officially been renewed for season 3 on HBO but an Oscar winning actor is in talks to land a starring role in the series created by Nic Pizzolatto.
Mahershala Ali — who won the Academy Award for ‘Moonlight’ this year while also starring in roles on ‘Luke Cage’ as well as ‘House of Cards’ — is reportedly in early negotiations to land a leading role in the third season of ‘True Detective’.
Now it might seem strange that ‘True Detective’ season 3 hasn’t even been made official so why is casting already going on?
Well, Pizzolatto has been working on scripts for a prospective third season of ‘True Detective’ alongside ‘Deadwood’ creator David Milch, who joined the creative process earlier this year.
If HBO can land Ali for a starring role in the anthology series, it’s tough to imagine ‘True Detective’ season 3 wouldn’t receive the green light from the network.
‘True Detective’ was a critical and ratings hit when the show first debuted with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in starring roles. Unfortunately, the sophomore season didn’t get nearly the same rave reviews with Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams in the starring roles.
‘True Detective’ hasn’t aired since 2015.
This latest news could be a signal that HBO is drawing near a third season renewal with Ali serving as a major land for the lead role in the series.
Stay tuned for more information on a potential third season of ‘True Detective’ as information becomes available.
