Mark Hamill isn’t completely shutting the door to a future appearance in a “Star Wars” film or TV series but he just doesn’t expect to portray Luke Skywalker again…
It looks like Luke Skywalker has laid down his lightsaber for good.
Mark Hamill, who has portrayed the character since “Star Wars” was first released in 1977, says as far as he’s concerned, he doesn’t really see a reason or a need to return to play Luke Skywalker again. He’s appeared in six different “Star Wars” films — most recently in the 2019 film “The Rise of Skywalker” — and even more recently, he even made an appearance in “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett” as a de-aged version of the character.
That said, the 71-year-old veteran actor feels like he’s done playing Luke Skywalker and there are plenty of “Star Wars” stories to tell that don’t involve him any longer.
“Well, you never say never, but I just don’t see any reason to [play Luke Skywalker again]” Hamill said while appearing on CBS News “Sunday Morning”.
“Let me put it that way: I mean, they have so many stories to tell, they don’t need Luke anymore. I had my time, and that’s good. But that’s enough.”
While Hamill is best known for his portrayal as Luke Skywalker, he’s gone onto star in dozens of films and television series outside of the “Star Wars” universe as well as a prolific voice acting career.
Most recently, Hamill starred alongside comedian Bert Kreischer in the film “The Machine” and he’s also set to appear in the upcoming Netflix horror series “The Fall of the House of Usher” from Mike Flanagan.
As far as “Star Wars” goes, the universe of films and TV series are still going stronger than ever with “The Mandalorian” just recently wrapping up its third season with “Ahsoka” starring Rosario Dawson set to debut on Disney+ later this year. There are also numerous “Star Wars” films also in the works including a sequel to “Rise of Skywalker” that will catch up with Rey Skywalker — as played by Daisy Ridley — 15 years after the events of that final film in the latest trilogy.
