Marvel announced several new series as part of Disney+ day including a new animated ‘X-Men’ series as well as a couple of new live action shows….

As part of Disney+ day on Friday, Marvel Studios announced several new series including a couple of animated shows that are sure to be fan favorites.

Perhaps the biggest news of the day was that “X-Men ’97” will be debuting on Disney+ in 2023. The animated series will carry on the story that started in the original “X-Men” animated series that ran from 1992 to 1997. The series was so beloved that rumors swirled that FOX executives entertained a live action film based upon the success and adoration surrounding the “X-Men” animated series.

Now Marvel Studios will take over with a continuation of the story in “X-Men ’97,” which is due out in 2023.

This is also the first truly recognized project regarding the X-Men since Disney purchased the majority of FOX assets, which included all of the characters from the X-Men universe.

Another animated series announced on Friday was “Spider-Man: Freshman Year,” which will follow Peter Parker during his first days after becoming the webslinger — an origin story the Marvel Cinematic Universe completely skipped after casting Tom Holland into the iconic role beginning with “Captain America: Civil War.”

The new animated series will see what it was like for Peter Parker after he first got his powers as he began the journey to become Spider-Man and eventually build his relationship with Tony Stark.

“Echo” will be a new live action series at Disney+, which will see Alaqua Cox as the character known as Maya Lopez aka Echo, a deaf Native American hero whose origins actually tie back to Daredevil in the comics. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Echo will be introduced as a character in the upcoming “Hawkeye” series debuting on November 24 before she gets her own series on Disney+.

Marvel also confirmed that Agatha Harkness would be returning to her own series after first appearing on “WandaVision.” The new series called “Agatha: House of Harkness” will see Kathryn Hahn return to her Emmy nominated role with “WandaVision” writer Jac Schaefer serving as the head writer on the show.

“Marvel Zombies” will also get its own animated series after first appearing in Marvel’s “What If” this past season on Disney+. The show will tell a story from an alternate reality where heroes are attempting to save the world from the zombie apocalypse.

“What If” was also renewed for a second season, which will once again dive into the great mysteries of the multi-verse while exploring what the future would look like if certain events took place inside the Marvel Universe.

The rest of the announcements centered around series that are already in development or production including “Moon Knight” starring Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke that will debut in 2022 as well as “She-Hulk” starring Tatiana Maslany with Mark Ruffalo and Tim Roth both set to reprise their roles from past Marvel films in the series.

Stay tuned for more trailer and casting information for the new series with more announcements expected in the coming weeks!
