Kevin Feige has confirmed a long standing rumor that Charlie Cox will be returning as Daredevil after he portrayed the character for 3 seasons on Netflix…
It’s hard to imagine anyone playing Daredevil other than Charlie Cox and now fans don’t even have to contemplate another actor portraying “The Man Without Fear.”
With rumors swirling about various characters from the Daredevil universe appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — either in films or ongoing TV series — it appears Cox will soon reprise his role from the popular Netflix series that ran for three seasons.
In a new interview with CinemaBlend, Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige confirmed that Cox will return as Daredevil but he was coy about the timing when he might actually appear on screen again.
“If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil,” Feige said. “Where we see that, how we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen.”
There’s been speculation for quite some time about Cox returning to the role as Daredevil/Matt Murdock after Marvel regained the rights to the character after a brief period of exclusivity maintained by Netflix after the streaming outlet produced the show alongside Marvel Television, which no longer exists.
Perhaps the biggest rumor centers around the upcoming film “Spider-Man: No Way Home” where Peter Parker is reportedly questioned about his secret identity as Spider-Man and Matt Murdock appears to serve as his attorney. Whether that means Matt would then play Daredevil again in the movie is obviously just as much of a mystery as his actual appearance in the film.
The other major clue that Daredevil could be showing up sooner rather than later is the new “Hawkeye” series on Disney+.
One of the lead characters in the series is Maya Lopez aka Echo — a deaf Native American assassin who actually originated in the pages of the “Daredevil” comics when she was hired by Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin to go after his mortal enemy under the guise that Daredevil had killed her father.
A similar story is playing out “Hawkeye” except this time Maya is going after Ronin aka Clint Barton for killing her father and her “uncle” has been teased as the real power behind the organization she’s running right now. That’s what has led many to believe that Maya’s uncle is none other than Wilson Fisk — played by the brilliant Vincent D’Onofrio, who has said frequently that he would gladly return to that role if the opportunity was presented to him.
Now this all may be just smoke and mirrors until Daredevil actually shows up in some Marvel Studios production but at least now Feige has confirmed that Cox will be part of the MCU at some point in the future.
