Marvel Studios is beginning to look towards a possible ‘Black Widow’ movie with Scarlett Johansson in the lead role…
‘Black Widow’ might finally get her own solo movie.
Marvel Studios has reportedly reached a deal with Jac Schaeffer to pen a script for the potential ‘Black Widow’ movie based on the character played by Scarlett Johansson that she first originated back in 2010.
There has been a lot of buzz about Marvel doing a ‘Black Widow’ feature film but this is the first real move in that direction with Schaeffer being hired to work on a script for the project.
Schaeffer is the writer behind films such as ‘The Shower’, which has Anne Hathaway currently attached as a star as well as ‘Nasty Women’, her remake of the film ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’, which is expected to also star Hathaway as well as Rebel Wilson. Schaeffer also penned the recent ‘Olaf’s Frozen Adventure’ based on the film ‘Frozen’, which aired ahead of the movie ‘Coco’ in theaters.
Johansson first appeared as Black Widow in the 2010 film ‘Iron Man 2’ and she’s made numerous appearances in several Marvel feature films since then including ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’ as well as ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and both ‘Avengers’ movies. Johansson is also set to appear in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ as well as the sequel due out next year.
Johansson was one of several ‘A’ list actors with contracts expected to end following the second ‘Avengers’ sequel out in 2019 and it was unclear if she would stick with the role or get written out of the series. Perhaps finally developing a solo movie for Black Widow is a way to keep Johansson interested in the role while she continues to appear in other Marvel movies as well.
Marvel will finally feature a female led superhero movie with ‘Captain Marvel’ due out in 2019 but a second feature film with Johannson starring as ‘Black Widow’ would undoubtedly be well received by fans after she’s played one of the most popular characters in the film series for several years.
