There were quite a few nuggets of information released at the Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic Con on Saturday, which once again stole the show…
Marvel has a habit of upending any other panels that come before it, even those featuring epic battles between Batman and Superman. As one of the final panels of the always popular Hall H days at San Diego Comic Con, Marvel pulled out all the stops for their upcoming films including an appearance by the casts of ‘Ant-Man’ and ‘The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron’.
First off with ‘Ant-Man’ details were finally released about who certain actors hired to work on the project would play in the upcoming film expected for release in 2015.
Corey Stoll — best known for his role in ‘House of Cards’ and the new FX series ‘The Strain’ — will play Darren Cross, a former protege of Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man being portrayed by Michael Douglas. When things go sour, Cross becomes the deadly villain known as Yellowjacket and he will be the main opposition for Ant-Man in the film.
Also announced is former ‘Lost’ star Evangeline Lilly, who will be playing Hope Pym — daughter to Hank Pym.
The first footage was also shown from ‘The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron’ with James Spader voicing the murderous robot who believes that Earth would be the safest place in the universe if we could just get rid of one pesky little problem — humanity. The brief sequence shown in Hall H on Saturday had the crowd worked into a frenzy by the time it finished airing.
Also in attendance on Saturday was Josh Brolin, who was officially announced as Thanos for his part in the Marvel Universe. Thanos is the biggest of the bad in Marvel, and Brolin even took the time to wear the Infinity Gauntlet out to the panel. If you don’t know what the Infinity Gauntlet is stop reading this and go pick up the book right now.
If you have read ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ it is one of the best comics ever done as Thanos uses the mythical power to zap out half the known universe as a gift to his bride to be ‘Death’. Needless to say heroes intervene and you definitely have a solid plot for ‘The Avengers 3’.
