Marvel Studios has officially cut ties with Jonathan Majors after the actor was found guilty on charges of assault and harassment in New York….
Jonathan Majors is officially out at Marvel and will no longer portray Kang the Conquerer moving forward.
Marvel Studios made the decision to cut ties with Majors after a New York jury returned a guilty verdict on reckless assault in the third degree and harassment following a two week trial based around a March altercation between the actor and his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari.
Majors faces up to one year in prison after his conviction with sentencing expected to take place in February.
Just after his arrest, questions started popping up on whether or not Marvel would eventually cut ties with Majors but the studio ultimately didn’t make any decisions until after the trial concluded. Prior to his firing, Majors served as a major component to the current phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after he was first introduced as the multi-verse traveling villain during the debut season of “Loki.”
Majors also appeared in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” as well as “Loki” season 2, which just wrapped recently on Disney+. Plans were in place for Majors to continue playing Kang up to the next pair of “Avengers” films titled “Avengers: Kang Dynasty” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” but now he’s been removed from all future Marvel projects.
As of now, Marvel still plans to move forward with both “Avengers” movies so it’s likely that the role of Kang the Conquerer will be recast.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that Marvel has recast a role with Terrance Howard originally playing James “Rhodey” Rhoades in the original “Iron Man” before he was replaced by Don Cheadle. The same thing happened following “The Incredible Hulk” with Edward Norton being replaced in the lead role by Mark Ruffalo, who went onto appear in numerous Marvel films and TV series.
Prior to his arrest in March, Majors was a star on the rise after appearing not only in Marvel projects but also receiving critical acclaim for his performances in TV series such as “Lovecraft Country” and films like “The Last Black Man in San Francisco.” He started to receive buzz for his role in the bodybuilding drama “Magazine Dreams” but that movie was shelved after his arrest and there’s no word when or if that film will see a release.
Marvel Studios hasn’t released an official statement regarding Majors’ firing or plans for Kang the Conquerer moving forward.
