Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is officially returning for a shortened sixth season but still no word if it will be the last…
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is returning.
On Monday, ABC officially renewed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for season 6 with designs on the show debut in 2018 or 2019 with a shortened 13 episode season.
There’s no word yet if this will be Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. final season but all signs point towards this being the swan song for the Marvel series.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been on the bubble for months as one of ABC’s lowest rated dramas currently on air with the only two shows below it already being cancelled. Still there was hold out for hope considering the relationship between Marvel and ABC, considering they are both owned by Disney.
Ultimately, ABC ordered another season — albeit a shorter one — as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return for season 6.
Of course there are still a lot of questions surrounding Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 including the return of Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson as his character has been teased as a possible goner all season long. In the narrative of the show, Coulson has been afflicted with some sort of illness that will eventually claim his life.
Add to that, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is actually running concurrently to the events in Avengers: Infinity War and that may have an effect on the outcome of season 5 before going into season 6.
For now get ready for the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 finale, which airs this Friday on ABC.
