Marvel’s “Secret Invasion” has found its lead villain.
Kingsley Ben-Adir — best known for his recent role in the film “One Night in Miami” as well as past appearances in series such as “High Fidelity” — has been cast in a leading role opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn in the highly anticipated series headed to Disney+.
“Secret Invasion” is based upon a famed comic book storyline of the same name that revealed how numerous shape-shifting Skrulls had replaced numerous high ranking officials and heroes on Earth as part of an elaborate plan to take over the planet. While the plot line for the series is unknown, rumors have swirled that this version of “Secret Invasion” will feature a similar story except it will be a faction of Skrulls seeking power on Earth with Nick Fury (Jackson) and Talos (Mendelsohn) determined to stop them.
While Ben-Adir’s role has not been revealed yet, according to the initial report from Deadline, he’s expected to play the lead villain in the series.
Ben-Adir has found a lot of success in recent years beyond his starring role in “One Night in Miami” where he portrayed Malcolm X. He also played former President Barack Obama on Showtime’s limited series “The Comey Rule” as well as the ex-boyfriend to Zoe Kravitz’s character on the short-lived Hulu series “High Fidelity.”
“Secret Invasion” is just one of many ambitious projects from Marvel Studios headed to Disney+ in the wake of the success of “WandaVision” as well as “Falcon and Winter Soldier,” which launches on March 18.
