The last remaining shows from Marvel’s partnership with Netflix are finished as ‘The Punisher’ and ‘Jessica Jones’ have both been cancelled…
The relationship between Marvel and Netflix is effectively finished.
On Monday, Netflix officially cancelled the final two remaining Marvel series on the streaming service with both ‘The Punisher’ and ‘Jessica Jones’ getting the axe.
‘The Punisher’ just finished up season 2 that debuted on Netflix in mid-January and ‘Jessica Jones’ has already filmed a third and now final season that will debut on the streaming service later this year.
Once ‘Jessica Jones’ season 3 debuts, that will be the final series to air on Netflix as part of this partnership with Marvel.
Last year, Netflix abruptly cancelled ‘Iron Fist’ after its second season aired and then put an end to ‘Luke Cage’ after season 2 for that series as well. ‘Daredevil’ then got cancelled after season 3 of that series debuted last year and it appeared the writing was already on the wall for the last two remaining shows still on Netflix.
With all of the Marvel-Netflix series now officially cancelled, the questions will now center around the future for those characters and whether or not any of them will ever be revived again. Hulu has stated that it could potentially be interested in resurrecting some of the Marvel series after already airing ‘The Runaways’ for two seasons with a third season likely coming soon.
Disney, who owns Marvel, also owns a 60-percent stake in Hulu after purchasing the majority of 21st Century FOX last year.
Many of the cast members from ‘Jessica Jones’ and ‘The Punisher’ said their goodbyes after their series were cancelled on Monday.
