Kevin Smith has the power!
The famed “Clerks” director will bring He-Man back to the small screen with “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” and the first images from the animated series have now been revealed.
Smith assembled an all-star voice cast for the series, which will be an updated version of the classic cartoon from the 1980s but with all of the same history and characters from the original show.
The first season of “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” will be split into two parts with the first five episodes debuting on Netflix on Friday, July 23.
Here’s the synopsis for the series from Netflix:
“Following a cataclysmic battle between He-Man and Skeletor, Eternia is fractured and the Guardians of Grayskull are scattered. And after decades of secrets tore them apart, it’s up to Teela to reunite the broken band of heroes, and solve the mystery of the missing Sword of Power in a race against time to restore Eternia and prevent the end of the universe.”
The voice cast for the new “Masters of the Universe” series includes: Chris Wood as Prince Adam / He-Man, Mark Hamill as Skeletor, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela, and Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn with additional voices provided by Liam Cunningham, Stephen Root, Diedrich Bader, Henry Rollins, Alicia Silverstone, Justin Long, Jason Mewes, Phil LaMarr, Tony Todd, Cree Summer, Kevin Michael Richardson and Kevin Conroy.
The original series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe’ ran from 1983 to 1985 and the show coincided with the popular toy line from Mattel. Smith has said his take on the series will essentially pick up after the final episode of the original cartoon and then move forward with a new set of adventures for He-Man and the rest of the characters from “Masters of the Universe.”
