The first look at “MaXXXine” has arrived with Mia Goth and Halsey sharing space in the upcoming horror sequel from director Ti West…
Mia Goth and Halsey are front and center in the first look photo from the set of “MaXXXine,” which serves as the sequel and the third piece in a trilogy of films that also includes “X” and “Pearl.”
Ti West serves as director after previously helming the other two films in the trilogy, which also included input from Goth after her breakout role in “X.” Goth then received rave reviews for her performance in “Pearl,” which was a prequel to “X,” with some calling for her to even get Oscar consideration.
The latest sequel fast forwards to the 1980s where Goth’s character Maxine Minx — the sole survivor of the farmhouse massacre that took place in “X” — is trying to make her way in Hollywood but she soon gets caught up in the grimy business of underground filmmaking.
Here’s the official synopsis from A24:
“MaXXXine reverses the franchise’s trajectory through time to pick up with Maxine after the violent events of X, as the sole survivor continues her journey towards fame, setting out to make it as an actress in 1980s Los Angeles.”
“MaXXXine” will feature a star studded cast in addition to Goth and Halsey with Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3., The Crown), Moses Sumney (The Idol), Michelle Monaghan (True Detective, Gone, Baby, Gone), Bobby Cannavale (The Watcher, Vinyl), Lily Collins (Emily in Paris), Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul, The Mandalorian) and Kevin Bacon (City on a Hill) also taking part in the film.
Goth has already offered glowing praise for the script for “MaXXXine,” which comes after she helped co-write “Pearl” alongside West.
“It’s the best script of the three by far,” Goth said. “It’s going be the best movie of the three.
Production is obviously underway on “MaXXXine,” although there’s no release date for the film. Both “X” and “Pearl” were released in 2022 so it’s entirely possible the film hits theaters before 2023 is over.
