Melissa Benoist is back to work on ‘Supergirl’ for season 5 but now she has an upgraded costume complete with pants…
Supergirl is done with the skirt ahead of season 5.
On Monday, Melissa Benoist revealed a first look at her new costume for ‘Supergirl’ where she no longer wears the skirt that’s been part of her outfit for the first four seasons and she’s now rocking a pair of pants instead.
According to Benoist, it’s been a long time coming to ditch the skirt, which was actually part of a series of gag outfits that she was trying on back in the ‘Supergirl’ pilot during season one while trying to figure out the kind of costume her hero would wear.
“We’ve been talking about pants since season 1,” Benoist said when speaking to EW. “Every time a writer from the show has come up, and it’s freezing cold in Vancouver, I’m like, ‘Guys, please can I not wear tights?’ I love [Kara’s old costume]. I haven’t changed it because it so works, and I think it is very Kara. I’ve always felt that — until recently, I’m like, ‘Something’s gotta give.’
“I just think it’s more adult. Part of my goal in this whole series for whenever the show ends, I just want there to be a very clear arc for this character that she evolved as a woman and found her femininity and her adulthood, just a self-discovery.”
Benoist debuted the first look at her new ‘Supergirl’ costume through her Instagram account with plenty of rave reviews.
Benoist will give a first glimpse at what lies ahead in ‘Supergirl’ season 5 when the show debuts new footage at San Diego Comic Con this Saturday.
