Mia Goth teases the final part in the ongoing ‘X’ and ‘Pearl’ trilogy as the best movie out of the three with filming to begin this year…
Mia Goth will have a very busy 2023 with the release of her upcoming film “The Infinity Pool” before production begins on “MaXXXine” — the third part in a trilogy of films from director Ti West that started with the slasher film “X” and then continued with the prequel “Pearl.”
Goth will ultimately play the lead role in all three films after portraying both Maxine Minx and the older version of Pearl in “X” and then returning to portray the younger version of Pearl in the prequel that revealed how she became a murderess in the first place.
The third film will serve as a direct sequel to “X” with Goth returning to the role of the adult-film actress who is the only survivor of a massacre on a farm where she was starring in a movie being produced by her fiance with the entire group killed by Pearl and her husband.
While she obviously couldn’t give away any plot details, Goth praised the upcoming third film as the best in the entire series and she’s excited to return to the character of Maxine Minx.
“It’s the best script of the three by far,” Goth told Variety. “It’s going be the best movie of the three. We’re all so tight now. This is going to be our third movie we’re working on together and everyone’s coming back together, so it’s bringing the band all back together again. We just have a shorthand with each other. We know how everybody works and we’re all so excited.
“It’s the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes and Maxine has gone through so much at this point. So when we find her in this new world, she’s just a force to be reckoned with and she goes through some pretty wild adventures.”
Goth has received critical acclaim for her performances in the two previous films — particularly her work in “Pearl,” which had many fans calling for her to nominated for any number of awards. While both films have been challenging, Goth admitted that filming “Pearl” was probably the most life-changing experience she’s had as an actor.
“I believe Pearl has fundamentally changed me as a performer,” Goth said. “It’s given me a whole new sense of self and a whole new level of confidence in terms of what I think I am able to do. It was a lot, but also just incredibly rewarding and such a gift to play. I really feel as though it fundamentally changed me in many ways for the better.”
Those films have also brought Goth a level of notoriety that she’s never experienced previously, which she admits is still hard to get used to even if she absolutely appreciates the attention.
“It’s really wild to witness,” Goth said. “I’ve never been a part of something that’s resonated with people as much as “Pearl” and “X,” but even as you bear witness to all of this, I have a weird sense of detachment to all of it. It doesn’t feel real in many ways, and it’s bizarre but amazing. It’s so exciting and such a gift.”
As of now, West hasn’t announced when to expect “MaXXXine” to be released, although Goth confirmed that production will get underway very soon.
“I’m in prep with the script, doing my homework, getting everything ready,” Goth said. “Then you let it all go once you get to set and just hope that some magic comes from it.”
For now get ready to see Goth in her next role in Brandon Cronenberg’s “The Infinity Pool,” which opens in theaters nationwide on January 27.
