Michael Rosenbaum will not be reprising his role as Lex Luthor for the upcoming ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ crossover on the CW…
There will be a mini ‘Smallville’ reunion during the upcoming ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ crossover on the CW with Tom Welling and Erica Durance already confirmed to return but one major cast member from the series won’t be coming back.
Michael Rosenbaum — who brilliantly portrayed the villainous Lex Luthor on and off for 10 seasons on the Superman prequel show — revealed this week that he was approached about returning for the upcoming five-episode crossover that spans the entire ‘Arrowverse’ but ultimately he chose not to come back due to the circumstances surrounding the project.
He explained what happened on Twitter:
“Friends, many of you have tweeted and asked me about joining the Infinite crossover,” Rosenbaum said. “I can’t tell you how much this means to me. I’ll just be straight up about this. [Warner Bros.] called my agents Friday afternoon when I was in Florida visiting my grandfather in a nursing home. Their offer: No script. No idea what I’m doing. No idea when I’m shooting. Basically no money. And the real kick in the ass: ‘We have to know now.’
“My simple answer was ‘Pass.’ I think you can understand why. I hope this answers all of your questions.”

It’s an unfortunate twist but an understandable decision given the situation surrounding the request to bring Rosenbaum back.
The upcoming ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ crossover will see numerous actors returning to past roles including the afore mentioned ‘Smallville’ cast. Brandon Routh will also pull double duty playing Ray Palmer aka the Atom from ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ as well as a Superman from an alternate reality after he played that part in the film ‘Superman Returns’ in 2006. Burt Ward — best known for playing Robin in the 1960’s ‘Batman’ series opposite Adam West — will also make an appearance in the crossover.
The ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ crossover starts with ‘Supergirl’ on Sunday night, December 6 and will wrap up with back-to-back episodes of ‘Arrow’ and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ on Tuesday, January 14.
