If ‘House of Cards’ returns for a sixth and final season, it will not include Kevin Spacey…
Kevin Spacey is finished on ‘House of Cards’.
Less than a week after ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ actor Anthony Rapp alleged that Spacey made sexual advances towards him when he was just 14-years old, the Oscar winning actor has been fired from the show he helped launch five seasons ago.
Netflix made the announcement on Friday.
“Netflix will not be involved with any further production of ‘House of Cards’ that includes Kevin Spacey,” Netflix said in a statement. “We will continue to work with MRC (the production company behind ‘House of Cards) during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show.
“We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film ‘Gore’, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey.”
Since the initial allegation was made by Rapp against Spacey, a slew of other reports have surfaced including eight current or former employees who worked on ‘House of Cards’ who told CNN that the actor created a ‘toxic’ work environment thanks to his lewd and predatory behavior on set.
Netflix already moved to make the upcoming sixth season of ‘House of Cards’ the last for the political drama but now there’s no word on whether or not the show will continue at all without Spacey on board.
Spacey was also dumped by his agents at CAA and by his publicist earlier this week amidst the allegations that continue to surface against the actor.
Production on the sixth and final season of ‘House of Cards’ was already stopped after the allegations against Spacey surfaced and now it remains to be seen whether or not Netflix will attempt to continue with the series or just scrap it all together. ‘House of Cards’ season five ended with Spacey’s character Frank Underwood stepping down as president with his wife Claire (played by Robin Wright) ascending to the Oval Office.
Of course scripts for the sixth season of ‘House of Cards’ had already been written with Spacey appearing on the show so if the series continues, the production would have to wait for an entirely new story to be created without his character having any part of the show. That could make it tough for ‘House of Cards’ to pick up production again any time soon if ever.
