Neve Campbell has released a statement confirming that she will not be reprising her role as Sidney Prescott for ‘Scream 6’…
Neve Campbell will not be returning for the upcoming “Scream 6” sequel.
It’s the first film in the franchise history where Campbell won’t be leading the cast as ultimate final girl Sidney Prescott after originally portraying the heroine in the original “Scream” film back in 1996 as well as four subsequent sequels.
According to Campbell in a statement she made on Monday, the issues with her return came down to the financial commitment the studio was willing to make to bring her back for the sixth film, which is currently in production in Canada.
“Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film,” Campbell said. “As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.
“It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”
It’s unfortunate news after Campbell made her return for the fifth “Scream” film that dropped in January with the movie ultimately earning more than $140 million at the box office, which led to a sequel being ordered almost immediately.
The same directing and writing teams behind the fifth “Scream” film is returning for “Scream 6” along with the majority of the same cast including Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega and Jasmin Savoy Brown as well as original “Scream” star Courteney Cox, who will apparently end up as the only legacy cast member coming back for the new sequel.
Hayden Panettiere will also be returning as Kirby Reed — a role she originated in 2011’s “Scream 4.”
As for Campbell, she’s staying plenty busy right now with a current role in the Netflix series “The Lincoln Lawyer” along with a recurring role in the upcoming “Twisted Metal” series.
