There’s a new “Alien” movie being developed by the same filmmaker behind the “Evil Dead” remake and the breakout horror hit “Don’t Breathe”…
A new “Alien” film is currently in development from Fede Alvarez, who is best known as the writer and director behind the 2013 “Evil Dead” remake as well as the breakout horror hit “Don’t Breathe.”
Alvarez has been hired to write and direct a new film based on the original science-fiction and horror classic directed by Ridley Scott that eventually spawned several sequels including James Cameron’s “Aliens” in 1986.
The new “Alien” film is not expected to be attached to any of the previous films but obviously the Xenomorph — the vicious alien creatures with two mouths, razor sharp teeth and acid for blood — will be front and center in this terrifying new project from Alvarez that’s being developed for Hulu.
The streaming service has an overall deal to product 10 original films per year and Alvarez’s take on “Alien” will be a Hulu exclusive.
According to reports, Alvarez has been a massive fan of the “Alien” franchise and he actually pitched this idea to Scott several years ago as he continued to develop projects based on his original film. The idea got so embedded in Scott’s head that he eventually reached back out to Alvarez and asked him if he would like to develop the project into a film.
Alvarez obviously didn’t need much convincing to say yes.
Scott will serve as an executive producer on the project after most recently helping to develop a pair of “Alien” prequels with the film “Prometheus” and then “Alien: Covenant.”
There’s no word on what kind of idea Alvarez has in mind for his taken on the “Alien” franchise but the film is expected to feature a “bunch of characters you haven’t seen before,” according to 20th Century division president Scott Asbell, who gave the film the green light.
Alvarez has become a fan favorite in the horror space after he managed to create a very memorable remake of “Evil Dead” before following that up with “Don’t Breathe,” which was another critical hit for the writer and director. Most recently, Alvarez served as a producer and co-writer on the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” sequel on Netflix.
