New ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Trailer Debuts with a Surprise Appearance, Teases Final Battle with Thanos (VIDEO)

The latest ‘Avengers: Endgame’ trailer arrived on Thursday with a ton of new footage including the band getting back together doing ‘whatever it takes’ to stop Thanos…

The newest ‘Avengers: Endgame’ trailer debuted on Thursday with plenty of new footage while also calling back to the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

There are numerous flashbacks cut throughout the two plus minute trailer including scenes from ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ as the heroes try to reconcile the loss to Thanos that wiped out half of life in the Universe.

“It seems like a thousand years ago, I fought my way out of that cave” ~ Tony Stark in his last message to Pepper Potts referencing the events of the first ‘Iron Man’ movie as he attempts to make his way back to Earth after visiting Thanos’ home planet of Titan.

The next few scenes are interlaced with words from Peggy Carter in her final scenes during ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ when she tells Steve Rogers that the best they can do sometimes is to start over.

It’s during that speech that we see Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow track down Clint Barton in Japan after he’s taken up the mantle as Ronin presumably following the death of his entire family. In those scenes we see Clint teaching a young girl how to shoot a bow and arrow, which seems to reference that this was his daughter and she was lost during ‘the snap’.

More scenes from the past are referenced including several from ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ where we see the heroes die and turn to dust after Thanos unleashes the snap. Steven Rogers offers some words during these scenes that are directly from ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

“I keep telling everybody they should move on. Some do but not us.”

Here’s where we see the return of Scott Lang after he entered the quantum realm at the end of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ and then somehow returned unaffected by Thanos’ snap. He’s looking at a barrage of posters of ‘missing people’ who presumably died during the snap.

We continue to see scenes from the past and present including one with Rocket Raccoon hitching a ride with War Machine and then several moments of the heroes gearing up for a fight with numerous characters promising they are going to do ‘whatever it takes’ to win this war.

The final few moments in the trailer show the Avengers teamed together once again led by Steve Rogers as they are dressed in uniforms that appear to be similar to the ones worn by Scott Lang when he entered the quantum realm. It’s not exactly clear if the Avengers are headed off to battle Thanos or if they are going to attempt to travel to a different time or place through the quantum realm.

It’s during that walk that shows Steve Rogers, Scott Lang, Nebula, Clint Barton, James Rhodes, Natasha Romanoff and surprise — Tony Stark — in these new uniforms heading off to battle. It’s a bit of a spoiler that the trailer actually shows Tony Stark back on Earth after the initial trailers had him stuck in space with a somewhat hopeless feeling that he’d ever return home again. Obviously we all knew Tony wasn’t going to just die out there on that ship all alone but still it’s odd that the trailer showed him in this final walk from the Avengers — it’s also telling that he’s following Steve Rogers rather than trying to take the lead himself.

And the big finale in a post credits scene — because this is Marvel after all — we see Thor meet Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel for the first time as she officially joins the team after returning to Earth following a signal from Nick Fury that she was needed at home.

In the scene, Thor calls to his axe Stormbreaker and it comes flying to his hand, just past Carol’s head and she doesn’t blink or flinch. Instead she just cracks a wry smile and Thor can’t help but say ‘I like this one”.

‘Avengers: Endgame’ lands in theaters on April 26.
