A new “Game of Thrones” spinoff series is on the way with this one called “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight”….
A new “Game of Thrones” prequel spinoff has been ordered to series at HBO.
The latest spinoff to join “House of the Dragon” will be titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight,” which is based on a series of books by author George R.R. Martin known as “The Tales of Dunk and Egg.”
The three novellas in the series — “The Hedge Knight,” “The Sworn Sword” and “The Mystery Knight” — center around two main characters: Dunk (better known as Duncan the Tall) and Egg (Aegon V Targaryen). The books focus on Dunk and Egg’s adventures together in the Seven Kingdoms with young Aegon serving as the squire to Duncan the Tall, who later goes onto become Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.
The series takes place approximately 100 years before the events in “Game of Thrones.”
Here’s the official synopsis from HBO:
“A century before the events of “Game of Thrones,” two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
To put this in context, Aegon V Targaryen, who would later go onto become king, he would be the great-great-great-great nephew of Rhaenyra Targaryen, who sits at the center of the Targaryen civil war unfolding in “House of the Dragon.” He would also be Daenerys Targaryen’s great-great grandfather.
Another familial tie to “Game of Thrones” worth noting — Aegon V Targaryen is the fourth son and fifth child to King Maeker I Targaryen and he’s the younger brother of Aemon Targaryen, who you might recognize as Maester Aemon — the member of the Night’s Watch who worked closely with Jon Snow prior to his death. After the Targaryen bloodline was nearly eradicated, Aemon was actually one of the only members of the family still alive alongside Daenerys and her brother Viserys.
“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” will be written by George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker, who most recently served as a writer and producer on “House of the Dragon.”
Production on “House of the Dragon” season 2 just kicked off this week so there’s no telling how quickly development will move on this new spinoff series but it’s likely scripts will be written and casting started in the near future.
