The new adaptation of Stephen King’s classic book “Salem’s Lot” will no longer release in theaters but instead shifts to the Max streaming service in 2024…
The long awaited adaptation of Stephen King’s book “Salem’s Lot” will finally arrive in 2024 but the film will no longer be released in theaters. Instead, the movie from “It” writer Gary Dauberman will land on the Max streaming service sometime this year.
“Salem’s Lot” was finished filming quite some time ago but there was no word about when the movie might actually see the light of day. King, whose original book was released back in 1975, even protested the delay for the film’s release on Twitter after he watched the movie.
“Between you and me, Twitter, I’ve seen the new SALEM’S LOT and it’s quite good,” King wrote. “Old-school horror filmmaking: slow build, big payoff. Not sure why WB is holding it back; not like it’s embarrassing, or anything. Who knows. I just write the fucking things.”

Of course, Warner Bros. has notoriously scrapped a couple of films lately for tax write offs including the “Batgirl” film that already finished production but the studio just decided to completely drop the film rather than release it. There was concern that perhaps “Salem’s Lot” would suffer the same fate but now at least the movie will get a release on Max.
Here’s the synopsis for the film:
“Author Ben Mears returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book only to discover his hometown is being preyed upon by a bloodthirsty vampire.”
“Salem’s Lot” stars Lewis Pullman as Ben Mears, Alfre Woodard as Dr. Cody, Makenzie Leigh as Susan Norton, Bill Camp as Matthew Burke, Spencer Treat Clark as Mike Ryerson, Pilou Asbæk as Straker, and John Benjamin Hickey as Father Callahan.
There’s no exact release date yet but the film will drop sometime in 2024.
