Oscar winner Guillermo Del Toro is making his own “Frankenstein” movie with Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield and Mia Goth in talks to lead the film…
Following his win for Best Animated Film at the 2023 Academy Awards, Guillermo Del Toro is already circling his next project with an adaptation of the Mary Shelley classic “Frankenstein” in the works.
Del Toro is expected to write and direct the upcoming film, although there’s no word on how exactly he will adapt Shelley’s original work from 1818, which has been transformed into dozens of films and TV shows over the years. The project is being produced by Netflix under Del Toro’s overall deal with the streamer.
While Del Toro is still working on a script, he’s already met with the three lead actors he hopes to bring onto the project including Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield and Mia Goth.
Isaac is one of the busiest actors working in Hollywood today after he recently starred in the “Moon Knight” series for Marvel Studios as well as the critically acclaimed mini-series “Scenes from a Marriage” as well as his appearance in the first “Dune” film that was nominated for an Academy Award.
Meanwhile, Garfield is coming off another strong performance in the FX adaptation of “Under the Banner of Heaven,” which earned him an Emmy nomination. as well as his return as Peter Parker in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
As for Goth, she has suddenly become the scream queen of horror films after her critically acclaimed roles in Ti West’s “X” as well as the prequel “Pearl.” She’ll return to that same universe for the upcoming sequel “MaXXXine” and she also earned rave reviews for her role in Brandon Cronenberg’s “Infinity Pool.”
While details around which characters the actors might play remains a secret, Goth is rumored to portray Doctor Frankenstein’s love interest.
With Del Toro still working on the script, there’s no telling how quickly this film might actually come together much less get into production but it appears things are already moving quickly now that the director has found his main cast for the movie.
