The list of guest stars for season one of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD continues to grow with comedian Patton Oswalt being the latest addition to the show…
You might think by now that the end game for the first season of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD has already been planned but you’d be wrong. New castings seem to pop up every week — from Bill Paxton to Adrian Pasdar — and the latest is comedian/actor Patton Oswalt.
The former ‘Justified’ star will play iconic Marvel character Agent Eric Koenig, who was first seen all the way back in Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos No. 27 as part of Nick Fury’s original team after World War II. How Koenig will be introduced on Agents of SHIELD remains to be seen, but Oswalt was very excited to land the part.
“I got a call from my agent saying they want you on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and I said ‘hell, yes,’” Patton told Marvel.com. “I’m lucky that I’m visible enough that they wanted to bring me in to play this character. I’d worked with [‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Executive Producer] Joss [Whedon] before on ‘Dollhouse,’ and I guess I wasn’t too annoying and they decided to put me on another one of his shows. So I was very lucky.”
The first season of Agents of SHIELD will be wrapping up in the next two months, but not before the addition of Oswalt’s character to the fold. There’s no timetable on when he will debut, but it’s likely he will only stick around for a single episode this year.
Oswalt should be a great addition to the show and his geek cred is legendary. If you need a reminder of that just check out his turn on Parks and Recreation when he unloaded one of the greatest Star Wars rants of all time
