Director Patty Jenkins has offered a statement regarding the recent news that “Wonder Woman 3” was scrapped at DC….
Following the news that “Wonder Woman 3” would not be moving forward at DC, director Patty Jenkins has finally broken her silence to explain her side of the story.
Initial reports stated that Jenkins’ initial version of the story for “Wonder Woman 3” was rejected and she ultimately decided to leave the sequel all together. Then a separate story stated that Jenkins walked away from “Wonder Woman 3” after feuding with the studio over the third film in a planned trilogy.
As usual, the truth lies somewhere in the middle with Jenkins clarifying her side of things in a statement she posted to Twitter. Jenkins also addressed her previously announced “Star Wars” film “Rogue Squadron,” which she says remains in development but was initially delayed so she could continue working on “Wonder Woman 3.”
“When there started being backlash about WW3 not happening, the attractive clickbait false story that it was me that killed it or walked away started to spread,” Jenkins wrote. “This is simply not true. I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding that there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now.
“I do not want what has been a beautiful journey with WW to land on negative note. I have loved and been so honored to be the person who got to make these last two Wonder Woman films. She is an incredible character. Living in and around her values makes one a better person every day. I wish her and her legacy an amazing future ahead, with or without me.”

As far as “Rogue Squadron” goes, Jenkins added that “I don’t know if it will happen or not” but “I look forward to its potential ahead.”
Jenkins also praised former “Wonder Woman” actress Lynda Carter and current “Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot after working with both of them on the films.
“Gal is the greatest gift I have ever received on this whole journey,” Jenkins said. “A cherished friend, inspiration and a sister. There are no words I can use to convey how magical she is. She is the walking embodiment of Wonder Woman in real life and a better person than the world can imagine.”
Jenkins, who directed Academy Award winner Charlize Theron in “Monster,” was routinely celebrated for her work on the first “Wonder Woman” film, which earned over $800 million at the box office. The sequel — “Wonder Woman 1984” — did not live up to expectations, however, with the film receiving far less positive reviews than the original.
Still, Jenkins was almost immediately working towards a third and final “Wonder Woman” film but DC Studios has recently undergone some major changes with James Gunn and Peter Safran joining as co-CEO’s.
Gunn responded to Jenkins’ post by adding that his interaction with the director had been nothing but “pleasant and professional.”
I can attest that all of Peter and my interactions with you were only pleasant and professional.

According to numerous reports, Gunn and Safran recently laid out a multi-year plan for DC across film, television and animation with the studio likely moving towards a model similar to Marvel where characters and storylines are all connected. DC previously attempted the same strategy but found far less success under the direction of Zack Snyder.
Now Gunn and Safran are essentially expected to give DC a massive makeover and take the studio in a new direction, which might also mean eventually saying goodbye to more legacy actors who have portrayed popular roles in past films.
For now, it appears “Wonder Woman 3” has officially been shelved with Jenkins confirming her exit from the project as the world anxiously awaits word on what’s next in the DC film universe.
