Patty Jenkins is officially back on board to direct ‘Wonder Woman 2’ for Warner Bros…
All the pieces are in place for the upcoming ‘Wonder Woman’ sequel from Warner Bros.
On Tuesday, director Patty Jenkins officially closed her deal to return for the sequel after leading the original film that has raked in more than $813 million at the worldwide box office. The film made over $409 million at the domestic box office on only a $150 million budget making it a very successful film for the studio.
Perhaps the even better news was ‘Wonder Woman’ being loved by fans and critics alike after landing in theaters earlier this year.
Almost immediately after the film was released, Warner Bros. started planning for the sequel with hopes of the entire cast and crew returning. Lead star Gal Gadot was already wrapped up and now the other major piece of the puzzle is in place with Jenkins signing on to direct the film.
While no financial figures were released by the studio, reports say Jenkins is expected to make $8 million up front for directing the ‘Wonder Woman’ sequel, which would make her the highest paid female director of all time. Jenkins will also make money on the back end of the film with box office sales.
Despite not officially inking her deal until this week, Jenkins had already been hard at work on a script for the ‘Wonder Woman’ sequel alongside DC chief Geoff Johns, who oversees all of the comic book led projects at Warner Bros.
‘Wonder Woman 2’ is expected to land in theaters on Dec. 13, 2019.
