“Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage will take on the lead role duties in the upcoming “Toxic Avenger” reboot from Legendary Pictures…
Peter Dinklage has tackled dragons in “Game of Thrones” and now he’ll seek to battle against crime and corruption as the new “Toxic Avenger.”
On Monday it was confirmed that Dinklage is set to star in the upcoming reboot of the cult-classic Troma film with Macon Blair — best known for his recent film “I Don’t Feel At Home in This World Anymore” — set to write and direct the updated take on the character.
Of course, Dinklage is best known for his Emmy winning role as Tyrion Lannister on “Game of Thrones” for eight seasons. He’s also starred in films such as “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” as well as “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”
Now he’ll take up the mantle of “The Toxic Avenger,” which was first introduced in a low-budget superhero action film released in 1984.
In that version of the story, “The Toxic Avenger” was a scrawny man named Melvin, who was constantly bullied and harassed while working as a janitor at a local health club. Melvin is eventually dropped out a second-floor window and he falls into a vat of toxic chemicals that eventually transforms him into the disfigured yet powerful new creature later dubbed The Toxic Avenger.
The updated take on the film is expected to subvert the superhero genre akin to a movie like “Deadpool.”
