In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to make sure the gym doors are locked and the pig’s blood gets cleaned up as we review the 1976 film “Carrie”…

In 1974, a young twenty-something author named Stephen King released his first novel named “Carrie” and the book received immediate attention including a friend of filmmaker Brian De Palma, who suggested transforming the story into a film.

King was paid $2,500 for the film rights with Lawrence D. Cohen adapting the book into a screenplay.

To this point in his career, De Palma had mostly worked on smaller, independent features but even though he had a major studio backing him this time, the budget was still small by comparison to most major horror films and the book itself while well received hadn’t yet become a true blockbuster.

Armed with his unique style of filmmaking and breakout performances from Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie, who both received Oscar nominations, De Palma ultimately unleashed one of the most iconic horror films of the 1970s….
