Stephen King is widely considered the greatest horror writer in history so it’s no surprise that his massive catalogue has been mined for adaptations on television and films ever since his first novel was released in 1974.
While “Carrie” was the first book he ever released, King’s reputation was first made through short stories he released including one called “The Boogeyman” that came out in Cavalier magazine in 1973. It wasn’t until 45 years later that a group of filmmakers decided to adapt that story into a film but it wasn’t until 2021 when the movie finally got the greenlight from the studio with Rob Savage brought on as a director.
The film was originally expected to drop as a streaming original on Hulu but the success of horror movies both during and after the pandemic ultimately earned the adaptation a theatrical release instead.
The story centers around a family besieged by grief following a tragic death and a creature hellbent on feasting on their misery…
