In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going play a game again as we look back at the 2005 sequel “Saw 2”….
The opening weekend success for “Saw” resulted in a sequel being ordered immediately but director James Wan and collaborator Leigh Wannell were already working on their next film titled “Dead Silence” so they weren’t available.
Meanwhile, music video director Darren Lynn Bousman had just completed work on his first film called “The Desperate” that shared a lot of similarities to “Saw.” Bousman thought his dream was dead and when Lionsgate came calling, he thought the studio wanted to shut down his film but instead they offered him a job.
His script was repurposed along with some help from Wannell to transform it into something that fit in the larger “Saw” universe and the sequel was official. The film finds a dirty cop at the mercy of the vengeful Jigsaw with his son locked in a house with a group of ex-convicts he helped put away….
