In 2014, HBO launched a new anthology series created by Nic Pizzolatto about a pair of detectives investigating an occult murder that ultimately spans three different time periods across 17 years.
The series was an instant hit with the first installment hailed as arguably one of the greatest single seasons in TV history. Two more seasons followed but didn’t find nearly as much success and it appeared the show was dead after Pizzolatto’s deal with HBO came to an end.
That all changed after “Tigers Are Not Afraid” director Issa Lopez was contacted about potentially developing her own idea for the show. Lopez was a huge fan of the series and she already had the bones for an idea in her head about a murder mystery that took place at the edge of the world in a cold, isolated town in Alaska.
Two-time Oscar winner Jodie Foster signed onto star in the series with Lopez writing and directing every episode. The story centers around the shocking death of several scientists working at a research facility near the small town of Ennis, Alaska and a local police chief tasked with solving the crime…
