After collaborating on the film “A Horrible Way to Die,” director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett were working towards another project together.
It was Wingard who came up with the suggestion about doing a film centered around a home invasion because he felt those were the only truly terrifying horror movies he saw in recent years, especially after seeing the French film “Them” as well as “The Strangers.”
Barrett took that idea along with inspiration from Agatha Christie novels and injecting humor through some screwball comedies that he came up with an original idea that would blend together a family drama mixed with a home invasion and some genuinely funny moments that just evolve throughout the ordeal.
The final product centered around a dysfunctional group of siblings and their significant others reunited at their parents’ vacation home when a group of masked killers start hunting them down one by one…
