Quentin Tarantino has decided not to move forward with his next planned project called “The Movie Critic,” which was expected to be his final feature film…
Quentin Tarantino really wants to go out with a bang so plans have changed for his 10th and final film.
The Oscar winning writer and director no longer plans to make “The Movie Critic,” which was set to star frequent collaborator Brad Pitt in the lead role with production expected to get underway later this year. The project was supposed to be based in 1977 featuring a film critic in the lead role based loosely upon real life writers he read growing up as a cinephile in California.
According to multiple reports, Tarantino had rewritten the script more recently and there were rumors that he was possibly going to include some past characters from his previous films but ultimately he just decided not to move forward with the project. Instead, Tarantino plans to go back to the drawing board to begin work on a new script that will hopefully serve as the final film of his prolific career.
Tarantino has stated for many years that he wanted to retire from feature filmmaking after 10 movies with his ninth being “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” which actually earned Pitt his first Oscar as an actor for Best Supporting role for playing stuntman Cliff Booth. Tarantino and Pitt also worked together on the critically acclaimed World War II fantasy film “Inglorious Basterds” so “The Movie Critic” would have been the third time they teamed up.
Now those plans are shelved with Tarantino no longer moving forward with “The Movie Critic.”
At this point, there’s no telling where Tarantino will go for his planned farewell film but he’s obviously not in a rush to get into production on anything until he’s truly ready. With this latest delay, it’s safe to assume Tarantino won’t be putting out anything in 2024 or 2025, although he has hinted in the past at potentially developing a TV series or maybe even a play based on one of his previous films.
For now, he’ll start chipping away at a new idea for his 10th and final film after shelving plans for “The Movie Critic.”
