“Ready or Not” …. here they come again.
The filmmakers behind the surprise horror hit that dropped back in 2019 starring Samara Weaving have plans to develop a sequel with a script already finished and now it’s just a matter of actually getting the movie made.
The team known as Radio Silence — directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin along with producer partner Chad Villella — who also directed “Scream V” and “Scream VI” as well as the new film “Abigail” are hopeful that they’ll get to return to the world of “Ready or Not” in the near future.
The original film starred Weaving as a new bride who marries into a posh, wealthy family with a dark secret involving a wedding night ritual where they play a deadly game as part of a deal they made with the devil to keep them rich and in power for all these years. The game selected is hide and seek and Weaving’s character desperately tries to survive a cat and mouse game as members of the eccentric family hunt her for sport but she refuses to go quietly into the night.
The “Ready or Not” filmmakers wouldn’t say much about what the sequel would involve but apparently a script has already been written and they are excited about the chance to shoot it.
“It’s getting figured out,” Gillett told EW recently about the sequel. “That’s what we’ll say: Ready or Not 2 is getting figured out. What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute fucking banger of a sequel. And however it gets made, and in whatever capacity we are helping get it made, we are so excited that it’s happening. That movie is truly the love of our creative lives in a lot of ways.”
Rumors about a “Ready or Not” sequel have swirled for some time now with original screenwriter Guy Busick reportedly returning to pen the script and Adam Robitel on board as a director. Robitel has worked on a number of horror films in the past including “Insidious: The Last Key” and the viral horror hit “The Taking of Deborah Logan.”
Weaving would also be expected to return in her lead role as Grace.
“I don’t think we knew after making it that there would be so much story left to tell,” Gillett said. “We’re so proud of what that first movie is, we’re so proud of what the sequel is. We’re just really excited, and fingers crossed that it gets made. And with Searchlight and Samara, they’re not gonna let it down.”
The Radio Silence team is currently busy promoting their new film “Abigail,” which drops on Friday, April 19 but it sounds like they definitely want to get the “Ready or Not” sequel past the development stage sooner rather than later.
