Disney is standing by its decision to fire James Gunn from working on ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ after controversial tweets were discovered recently…
Despite the effort from the entire cast of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, James Gunn will not be returning to direct the third installment of the popular Marvel film series.
According to a new report from Variety, Disney studio chairman Alan Horn met with Gunn just recently discuss the company’s decision to fire him from directing ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ after some controversial tweets from several years ago were unearthed by some far right media groups.
Gunn apologized for the messages that were written long before he was employed by Disney but the company still opted to fire him from directing the third installment of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.
Shortly after that decision was made, the entire cast from the movie gathered together to pen a letter showing Gunn support with hopes that he would return to direct the next ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movie.
It appears those hopes were dashed this week after Disney reportedly met with Gunn and made the final decision to uphold his firing from the movie. The meeting was described as ‘courteous and professional’ but ultimately Horn stood by the decision from Disney to keep Gunn away from the new ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movie.
As of now there’s no word on who will end up replacing Gunn on the movie or if the studio will still be using the script he wrote for the project. Disney may also have an even bigger problem on its hands from the cast, who all banded together to show Gunn support after he was fired.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ star Dave Bautista, who plays Drax, has said that if Disney doesn’t at least use Gunn’s script for the new movie that he will not take part in the film.
This latest development could also potentially delay the release of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ but again Disney has made no announcements regarding the future of the franchise now that they’ve severed ties with Gunn.
