A report surfaced on Friday that Rosario Dawson will join “The Mandalorian” in season 2 as fan favorite character Ahsoka Tano from the “Star Wars: Clone Wars” animated series…
Sometimes fantasy casting works out.
On Friday, reports surfaced that actress Rosario Dawson was joining “The Mandalorian” season 2 as former Jedi padawan Ahsoka Tano, who has been a fan favorite character for many years after first appearing in the “Star Wars: Clone Wars” animated series. The news was initially reported by Slashfilm.
Dawson, who just recently starred in the USA Network series “Briarpatch,” has not confirmed the casting but she teased a few years ago that she would definitely love to play the role if the “Star Wars” universe ever decided to make Ahsoka Tano move from the animated series to a live action film.
Now it appears Dawson will be playing Ahsoka Tano in “The Mandalorian,” which has becoming a hugely popular series since first debuting on Disney+ last year.
In “Star Wars” animated universe, Ahsoka Tano is a former Jedi padawan, who learned under Master Anakin Skywalker. Ahsoka was a hero during the Clone Wars but she eventually fell out of favor with the Jedi and ended up leaving the order. When Emperor Palpatine rose to power and wiped out almost every Jedi in the galaxy, Ahsoka went into hiding without any knowledge that her former Master had fallen to the Dark Side to become Darth Vader. As time passed, Ahsoka joined the Rebellion in the fight against the Galactic Empire before engaging in a lightsaber battle against Darth Vader — and it was that epic fight that finally revealed to her without a doubt that the man behind the mask was her former Master, Anakin Skywalker.
In the final moments of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” Ahsoka Tano’s voice is heard amongst the Jedi speaking to Rey as she engages in her final battle against Emperor Palpatine. Now it looks like Tano will officially crossover from the animated universe to the live action “Star Wars” series too appear on “The Mandalorian.”
Long before this announcement was made, artist Bosslogic did a mock up of what Dawson could look like as Ahsoka Tano.
“The Mandalorian” is expected to return for season 2 on Disney+ later this year.
