The Black Hood will return to haunt Riverdale before the second season is wrapped with the final few episodes re-introducing the ominous villain…
When Sheriff Keller shot and killed the Black Hood during the Riverdale season 2 mid-season finale, something just didn’t feel right.
Even after Archie and Betty teamed up to expose school janitor Joseph Svenson as the culprit behind the Black Hood, the clues just didn’t add up that he was the lone gunman responsible for everything that had unfolded in the weeks prior. In fact, Archie even raised his concerns that perhaps the wrong man was framed as the Black Hood.
Now it appears those suspicions have been proven correct as Riverdale will revisit the Black Hood story again before the end of season 2.
“When we started, we had three likely suspects, so for the first half of the season, we were always dropping red herrings so we could pick [one of the three],” Riverdale show runner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said about the Black Hood’s identity during Paleyfest.
“As we moved into the second half, and we get back to the Black Hood for the last few episodes, we always knew it wasn’t Svenson, [the janitor], but for the last 10 episodes or so, we’ve had a pretty clear idea and have been writing toward that.”
The Black Hood made his first appearance at the end of Riverdale season one when he gunned down Fred Andrews inside Pop’s Chock-Lit-Shoppe. The hooded criminal was then responsible for the death of two teachers — Geraldine Grundy (Archie’s former flame) and Robert Phillips aka the Sugarman — as well as an assault on Moose and Midge earlier this season.
There have been plenty of suspects in the Black Hood case but the person who might sit at the top of the list is Chic Cooper — the wayward son of Alice Cooper, who just recently became part of the family while constantly creeping out his half-sister Betty.
Betty has promised to expose Chic for who he really is after discovering that he’s not actually related to her father Hal Cooper, which begs the question who is his real father?
All these questions will be answered before Riverdale season 2 wraps up with the latest episode set to air on Wednesday night at 8pm ET on the CW.
