‘Riverdale’ will have some new faces coming to town for season 2 including the nefarious Hiram Lodge…
Following an entire season as a major character we’ve never seen or heard from, ‘Riverdale’ will finally introduce Hiram Lodge during season 2.
Mark Consuelos — best known for his roles on ‘Kingdom’ as well as ‘American Horror Story’ — will join ‘Riverdale’ season 2 as the patriarch to the Lodge family, joining his wife Hermoine and daughter Veronica presumably after he’s released from prison.
Now there’s a catch to the casting news.
Consuelos has joined the cast of ‘Riverdale’ but will be forced out of the role if FOX picks up ‘Pitch’ for season 2. Consuelos is currently part of the cast of the freshman baseball drama, but there’s no word yet whether or not ‘Pitch’ will survive for a sophomore year.
As of now, ‘Pitch’ is teetering between renewal or cancellation and the outcome will decide if Consuelos is able to join the cast of ‘Riverdale’ season 2.
Elsewhere in the town with pep, ‘Riverdale’ producers will be searching for a new actor to play the role of Reggie Mantle after the first season saw Ross Butler play the character.
Butler just recently appeared as a series regular on the Netflix show ’13 Reasons Why’ and it’s more than likely to be picked up for a second season, which would virtually eliminate his time on ‘Riverdale’.
“We love what Ross did with the role of Reggie [this season], but because of his commitments to other projects, we couldn’t use him nearly as much as we would have liked,” series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said on Tuesday when speaking to TVLine. “[Next season], we want more Reggie on our show — he’s Archie’s rival! — and because Ross is unavailable to come back to Riverdale, we’re looking for a new Reggie.
“Those are big shoes to fill, but we’re confident we can find an actor who is as funny and sexy as Ross. And of course we all wish Ross the best.”
There’s no word yet on when ‘Riverdale’ will make a decision on a new Reggie, but the show has already been picked up for a second season so it probably won’t take long for the hunt to begin.
‘Riverdale’ returns with a new episode on Thursday night at 9pm on the CW.
