The town of “Riverdale” will be down two residents after season 4 as Skeet Ulrich and Marisol Nichols are leaving the series later this year…
“Riverdale” will be losing two of its residents when season 4 is finished.
Skeet Ulrich, who plays Jughead Jones’ father F.P., and Marisol Nichols, who portrays Veronica Lodge’s mother Hermoine, will both exit the popular CW series after the conclusion of the ongoing season. TVLine first reported the news.
“Part of life in Riverdale — and part of growing up — is saying goodbye to people,” “Riverdale” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said in a statement. “I’m grateful to Skeet and Marisol for their incredible work on the show these last four years, and we all wish them well on their future endeavors. F.P. and Hermione will never be far from our hearts. And, of course, they’re always welcome back in Riverdale.”
Ulrich, who has upcoming parts in the Tom Hanks’ led film “BIOS” as well as the Quibi series “#freerayshawn” has been a part of “Riverdale” since the first season. There’s no word on why Ulrich is leaving the series or how his character will exit the show but it appears his time in “Riverdale” has come to a close.
“I can’t even begin to thank you all for the unwavering support and love!” Ulrich wrote on Instagram after his exit was announced. “It is remarkable and deeply appreciated. I may be leaving “Riverdale” but my experience over the last four years will never leave my heart. A very special thanks to [Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa] for giving me this opportunity.”
Much the same was echoed for Nichols, who has also been a mainstay on “Riverdale” since the first season. She’s got a part in the upcoming “Saw” revival titled “Spiral” where she stars opposite Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson.
“I am incredible grateful for my time on “Riverdale,” my second family,” Nichols wrote on Instagram. “These are friendships that go beyond set life. Portraying Hermione Lodge was a joy, and working with this cast was an honor, truly. The best part has been all of you. Without your enthusiastic embracing of our show and these characters we wouldn’t be here. Thank you for the opportunity to entertain you all.”
Considering both Ulrich and Nichols are playing major parts in the ongoing season, their exits have been met with plenty of shock from “Riverdale” fans. Based on Aguirre-Sacasa’s statement, it appears both actors would be welcome to return to “Riverdale,” which seems to indicate their exit wasn’t a story driven decision but more likely one made out of necessity as they split with the series.
“Riverdale” currently airs on Wednesday nights on the CW and the series has already been picked up for season 5.
