More than 50 years after the classic horror film “Rosemary’s Baby” was unleashed, a prequel to the film is set for release in October with “Ozark” star Julia Garner in the lead role.
“Apartment 7A” will document the events that happened prior to “Rosemary’s Baby,” which follows a couple played by Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes after they move into a new apartment in New York City and Farrow’s character gets pregnant but it’s not long before she discovers something sinister and evil is lurking around every corner. The film ends with Rosemary (Farrow) giving birth to the Antichrist, which was the diabolical plan hatched by her neighbors and husband after they first moved into the building.
“Apartment 7A” will travel back a little further with the film set in 1965 New York City, and tells the story prior to the legendary horror classic ‘Rosemary’s Baby’, exploring what happened in the apartment before Rosemary moved in. When a struggling, young dancer suffers a devastating injury, she finds herself drawn in by dark forces when a peculiar, well-connected, older couple promises her a shot at fame.”
If you remember the events that happen in “Rosemary’s Baby,” the Roman and Minnie Castevet introduce themselves to Rosemary and her husband, Guy Woodhouse, following the tragic death of a girl named Terry, who they took in and gave a home before she committed suicide by jumping off the building and falling to her death.
Garner takes on the lead role in “Apartment 7A” alongside Dianne Wiest (“Mayor of Kingstown”), Jim Sturgess (“Across the Universe”) and Kevin McNally (the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film series) as well as Marli Siu (“Everything I Know About Love”), Andrew Buchan (“All the Money in the World”), Rosy McEwen (“Blue Jean”) and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (“Wonka”).
“Apartment 7A” is due out on Paramount+ in October as the streaming service seeks to boost its scary movie lineup ahead of Halloween.
