Despite a looming merger between Disney and FOX, Ryan Reynolds says early work has already started on ‘Deadpool 3’…
There are a ton of questions that still exist about the looming deal that will see Disney purchase the majority of FOX assets that include ownership over all of the X-Men characters and films.
One of those characters is Deadpool — portrayed hilariously by Ryan Reynolds through two blockbuster films that were breakout hits for FOX and both well received films by critics and audiences alike.
Right now, Reynolds is still doing promotional work for the PG-13 version of ‘Deadpool’ that was first released last December called ‘Once Upon a Deadpool’ with the movie just now opening in China.
While there are still two more fully completed films — ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ and ‘New Mutants’ — that will be released from FOX even after Disney officially owns the company, there still aren’t many answers available for what Marvel Studios plans to do with those existing X-Men characters or the actors who portray them.
Reynolds may be at the top of the list when it comes to actors Disney would probably hope to retain after potentially revamping or rebooting the entire X-Men universe but as far as he’s concerned right now it’s business as usual.
In fact while promoting the ‘Deadpool’ sequel in China this week, he confirmed that early work has already started on ‘Deadpool 3’.
According to Variety, Reynolds tease work beginning on ‘Deadpool 3’ but also stated the third film in the series was ‘“looking to go in a completely different direction,” and adding “often, they reboot or change a character maybe like four movies too late.”
What that means for the future of ‘Deadpool’ remains to be seen but that could be a hint about the character’s future with Marvel after studio president Kevin Feige takes over as the main decision maker for the franchise.
Is a ‘Deadpool 3’ under the Marvel Cinematic Universe banner already being secretively planned? We’ll have to wait to hear more on that as further details about the sequel are revealed.
