Ryan Reynolds has often made fun of his appearance in the “Green Lantern” movie but as part of a St. Paddy’s Day celebration, he watched it for the first time….
Before Ryan Reynolds transformed “Deadpool” into one of the most successful comic book film franchises of all time, he wasn’t exactly proud of his previous work in the superhero genre.
Back in 2011, Reynolds starred in “Green Lantern” opposite his future wife Blake Lively and while the reviews weren’t exactly brutal, it’s not a film that’s stood the test of time.
In recent years, Reynolds has made “Green Lantern” a punchline during many of his press tours while promoting other projects but funny enough he had never actually sat down and watched the movie from start to finish … until now.
On Wednesday in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, Reynolds sat down with a bottle of his own gin and watched “Green Lantern” for the first time while live tweeting his commentary throughout the movie. There were numerous hilarious moments along the way as Reynolds witnessed himself in all the CGI glory that came along with the “Green Lantern” movie not to mention his running commentary on the co-stars that worked with him on the movie.
Here’s the running commentary that Reynolds provided while watching himself in “Green Lantern” for the first time:
Excited to see the Snyder Cut. But ahead of its debut – and with the aid of a good amount of #AviationGin – tonight at 6pm EST I’ll do something I’ve never done: actually watch Green Lantern. Happy #StPatricksDay

It’s apparently the only fucking movie in existence that’s not streaming anywhere so you’re SOL if you want to watch along. But I’m going deep. #GinnerAndAMovie #AviationGin

Starting GL now. First time ever. Too early to ask for a #SnyderCut of this fucker?

I only ever read my parts of the script so this is genuinely exciting for me to watch

This protagonist seems reckless but likable

Oh boy. Tragic childhood flashback sequence killing a beloved parent. Designed to instill a level of depth and hard fought empathy for our hero. Disney perfected this move.

Angela Bassett is stunning. Period.

Oath still works. I stand by my oath performance.

Do you have any idea how weird it is to act while being attacked by invisible space energy?

They spent 6 hrs each day turning Peter Sarsgaard’s head into an over-inflated beach ball. But the GL suit is a onesie made from old Frogger pixels.

E True Hollywood Story should do a “where are they now” piece on Hector’s mustache. I genuinely wonder what it’s been up to.
— Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) March 17, 2021
Who elevates the movie the most?
— Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) March 17, 2021
Maybe it’s the Aviation Gin talking, but #GreenLantern was nothing to fear! Hundreds of incredible crew and cast members did amazing work — and while it’s not perfect, it ain’t a tragedy. Next time I won’t wait a decade to watch.
