“Scream” will see a sixth film in the franchise after another sequel was officially ordered with the same team returning from the film just released in January…
These days you gotta have a sequel …. and “Scream” will be back for a sixth film in the franchise.
On Thursday, Paramount and Spyglass officially ordered another sequel in the popular horror series after 2022’s “Scream” earned more than $100 million at the box office.
The same creative team behind the latest “Scream” will return as Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are set as directors with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick handling the script. Original “Scream” creator Kevin Williamson is also returning as an executive producer on the film.
“Working with such a wonderful and talented family of creators — and in the lineage Wes and Kevin so expertly built — has been the thrill of a lifetime, and we’re so excited to bring the next chapter in the Scream saga to life,” Radio Silence said in a statement.
The latest “Scream” proved to be a success with more than $106 million earned globally while the sequel also managed to reinvigorate the franchise after “Scream 4” wasn’t considered a hit when that film landed back in 2011. Afterwards, director Wes Craven had pitched an idea for his version of “Scream 5” but the film never got off the ground.
Sadly, Craven died in 2015, which put further “Scream” sequels in limbo after he had directed the first four films.
Finally when the Radio Silence team got involved — the same filmmakers behind the surprise hit “Ready or Not” — they got the greenlight on making another “Scream” movie, which paid homage to the original films as well as Craven’s legacy. Series favorites Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette all signed on to return for the fifth film, which has received overwhelmingly positive reviews.
“Is this real life?” Vanderbilt and Busick said in a statement. “Getting to collaborate once again with our friends on the next installment of the Scream story is more than we could have hoped for.
“We are overwhelmed that we get to continue to play in the sandbox that Kevin and Wes created. It is, as Ghostface would say, an honor.”
Now “Scream 6” is expected to go into production this summer, although there’s no word yet on which cast members may return for the latest sequel.
