The filmmakers behind the new “Scream” reveal that they’ve already got an idea for a sixth film but it remains to be seen if they’ll be back or not…
The newest installment in the “Scream” franchise is expected to earn more than $100 million at the box office, which makes another sequel almost a forgone conclusion.
That said, the filmmakers behind the newest sequel — including directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin as well as screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick — have not officially signed onto create another “Scream” film just yet.
If another “Scream” film is inevitable, Gillett and Bettinelli-Olpin, who are part of the filmmaking team at Radio Silence, definitely like the idea of coming back for another film while teasing an idea that’s already been pitched for sixth sequel in the franchise.
“We know that Guy and Jamie have a really great idea for where this saga goes, and I can say that we had such an amazing time making this one,” Gillett said when speaking to EW.
“From start to finish, it was just like a dream come true, and if they’d have us back, we’d do it in a heartbeat.”
A huge part of “Scream” even having a fifth sequel was largely due to the creative team behind the movie coming up with a pitch that would intrigue legacy actors such as Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette to return for another movie after previously working with Wes Craven on the first four films.
Sadly, Craven died in 2017 but the entire team at Radio Silence sought to pay homage to him with the new film, which is part of what helped convince many of the past actors to return. The end of the new “Scream” finishes with a single shot that just reads “For Wes.”
Campbell previously addressed her interest in coming back for another “Scream” film and it appeared she would consider it, especially after the way Gillett, Bettinelli-Olpin and their team made this latest sequel.
“It’s down to the strength of the story,” Neve told The Hollywood Reporter. “I wouldn’t want to do it unless the script is good. It would be hard. But these guys did really well on this one, so I’m curious to see what would come next. So we’ll see.”
“Scream” has consistently been a strong performer at the box office, which is part of the reason why it would would seem highly likely that the studio will seek to make another sequel.
Now it’s just a waiting game to find out if the same team will get to return to “Scream” again.
