“Scream VI” marked the first time Neve Campbell didn’t appear in one of the franchise films but the team behind the sequels promise they aren’t giving up on bringing her back eventually…
“Scream VI” has already been hailed as a huge success after the biggest box office opening in the history of the more than 25-year-old franchise while earning more than $67 million over the weekend.
As successful as the sequel has been thus far, the one missing piece to the puzzle was original series star Neve Campbell not returning for the latest “Scream” movie after she was unable to come to an agreement with the studio on her pay for the film. While fellow cast members spoke out almost unanimously in support of Campbell’s decision, the show had to go on so the team at Radio Silence — a group of filmmakers including Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella — crafted a story that only loosely mentions Sidney Prescott but ultimately moves on without her appearance in the movie.
Despite Campbell missing out on “Scream VI,” the filmmakers behind the movie promise that they won’t ever stop hoping that she will eventually return to the franchise she helped to create.
“We’d never give up on her,” Bettinelli-Olpin said when asked about Campbell possibly coming back in the future. “We love Neve, and we love Sidney. So we’d love to be able to make another movie with her, and we’re not giving up.”
While no official order has been given to greenlight “Scream VI,” that almost feels like a forgone conclusion at this point given the massive opening weekend.
The team at Radio Silence have also stated that they would love to return for another film but even if they don’t come back for some unknown reason, they all hope that “Scream” continues for many more sequels.
“We hope [to come back]” Bettinelli-Olpin told Deadline during the premiere. “We want to be watching ‘Scream’ movies whether we’re involved or not for the rest of our lives.”
Given the immense success “Scream VI” has already found along with overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics, it seems like another sequel will be on the way and perhaps it will spell the return of Sidney Prescott in part 7.
