“Scream VII” continues to take losses after director Christopher Landon announced that he’s left the project while saying his dream job turned into a nightmare…
“Scream VII” has taken yet another major loss.
Christopher Landon — who was set to take over as director for the latest sequel — announced that he’s left the project all together. It turns out London left “Scream VII” several weeks ago but he’s only just now confirming the news.
“I guess now is as good a time as any to announce I formally exited Scream 7 weeks ago,” Landon wrote on Twitter. “This will disappoint some and delight others. It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart did break for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on.
“I have nothing more to add to the conversation other than I hope Wes [Craven’s] legacy thrives and lifts above the din of a divided world. What he and Kevin [Williamson] created is something amazing and I was honored to have even the briefest moment basking in their glow.”

Landon took on the job as director for “Scream VII” after the team at Radio Silence — Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett — decided not to return after directing the fifth “Scream” sequel as well as “Scream VI.” While Radio Silence would return as producers with screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick penning the script for the film, Landon was set to take over as director following his success on films such as “Freaky” and “Happy Death Day.”
Now Landon has left the project, which has fallen into shambles in recent weeks.
The first domino to fall was Melissa Barrera being fired from the sequel after she made posts on social media about the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. Spyglass — the studio behind the films — announced Barrera’s firing, which was met by immediate backlash from fans.
Days later, Jenna Ortega also left the sequel due to scheduling conflicts with filming for the new season of her hit Netflix series “Wednesday.”
Reports surfaced soon after Barrera’s firing and Ortega leaving the film that producers were scrambling to save “Scream VII’ with a complete revamp on the story while also potentially reaching out to Neve Campbell to see if a deal could be struck to get her to return after she didn’t appear in “Scream VI” over a salary dispute.
With Landon now dropping out of “Scream VII,” it remains to be seen what the studio will do moving forward or if the film will be scrapped entirely now that two of the lead actors and the director have both left the sequel.
Stay tuned for more news about the future of the “Scream” franchise as it becomes available.
